Today I’ve got a couple of items from Ohm Beads. The first is the gorgeous Beyond YFLF Bracelet made of silver and Adventurine. It comes in two sizes, Small for <18cm and Large for >18cm. There are two others which you can see on the Ohm website. My friend Trisha loves navy blue so has ordered the Belief one and I’m sure it will look amazing with her blue beads. I don’t have any of the YFLF character beads, so have just been enjoying the bracelet on its own. YFLF stands for Your Faith Looks Familiar and is a ‘non-Prophet organization that promotes Oneness Beyond Belief. The YFLF Superheroes fight against the evil forces of prejudice and ignorance’. I love the idea behind this.
One side features Bu, Momo and NiΓ±o.
The other side depicts Shivz, Jay C and Beel.
It is such a good size that I really don’t think it needs to be paired with anything.
But I did add a couple of bangles for beads n’ coffee the other day.
Now for the bead. Chinese New Year is January 28 this year and it’s the Year of the Rooster. I love the detail on this bead, especially on the tail and the feet!
Of course, red and gold are the colours of the box. For two years I taught kindergarten in Toronto at a school that had a sizeable Chinese immigrant population and I remember buying the little money envelopes and putting shiny pennies in for the kids to celebrate Chinese New Year.
The rooster works as a pendant using the Ball Chain Necklace.
At first I tried it just with some gold coloured Perlen Mini Beauty Beads.
Then I tried an asymmetrical look using the Year of the Horse glass bead that Ohm Beads made for 2014. I really like this bangle, even though I usually try for symmetry.
Lastly, I made up a mini bracelet using the Chi Chi Sticks and some red and orange Ohm Beads. Left to right are Salamander Schnozberry, In the Koi Pond, Broken Heart, Year of the Cock, Year of the Horse, Ganges, Nuts & Berries and the Chi Chi Sticks.
I think this will be the combo that I wear at the end of January for Chinese New Year. I love living in a country which celebrates events from lots of different cultures! My husband is a high school English as a Second Language teacher, so I should start paying attention to more of the celebrations and make bracelets for Diwali and so on. I’ve been seeing some awesome combinations using the Year of the Cock on Instagram, so I think it’s safe to say that many people are really enjoying it! When I checked last night there were still some available at Perlen for about $58 CDN. Does anyone else plan to make a bracelet for Chinese New Year?
Disclosure: For this blog I may receive some items as promotional samples.
I love the YFLF bracelets! And the Rooster is a beautiful vocal bead! Love you combinations!

I love your beads n’ coffee combination. For some reason I really like when you do three bangles and/or bracelets together.

Thanks Suzanne. I wear three bangles/bracelets together a lot of the time. In fact, I just made up two Trollbeads silver bangles and had to throw on a Pandora Essence bracelet with them because I’m not crazy about wearing just two-need that third one to balance things out! π So, I guess I either wear one or three. What about you?

I like to wear three also and I like them to be cohesive. Isn’t three a lucky number in the Chinese culture?

Yes, I believe it is.

Absolutely love this combo! I love ohm barrel glass and the reds and oranges are so bold together. Nuts and berries and koi pond are two beads I was so sad to miss out on although I was able to find the blue version ( I think it’s called across the lake?) which i use so frequently. Hope ohm does more vibrant glass beads this year π

Yeah, I got a lot of comments about the red and orange on Instagram, so they must be colours that are underrepresented in the bead world. In the Koi Pond is one of my all time favourite beads!

I love your bracelet stacks! πππ The YFLF bracelet is super cute and reminds me a lot of those stone bracelets my Chinese grandmother used to wear on her arm. The Year of the Cock bead is also incredibly detailed and sooo pretty, but no one in our family was born in that year π¦
I’m a bit of a lurking reader, but I wanted to share a small artisan jeweler from the Philippines (where I live) whose beads I’ve just fallen in love with, her website is “strozzistawzeeh” β€οΈοΈ I get really excited when I find new beads to try out or even admire from afar and I wanted to share π

Hello to the Philippines! I will trade you my weather right now, ha ha! I just looked at those beads and aren’t the colours fantastic? There are so many talented and creative people out there!

I regret not getting the Year of the Horse glass bead when it came out, it is really nice. I’ve seen very similar beads in some of the “Ohm unreleased glass” sets that some of the retailers have had for events, but I’ve never been fast enough to snag one. I particularly like your combo with it and the Perlen beads.
I have thought about putting together something for Chinese New Year. I won the Ohm Blessed with Wealth bead and I also have the Pandora Hong Bao bead from 2012 so that should give me a good start!

Oh yes, those will be perfect for a CNY bracelet! The Year of the Horse bead really is a beauty. I remember I had a $5 off coupon from them as I alerted them to the fact that their new Canadian website had prices in the thousands of dollars for some beads and others were a few cents!
