I just have a quick little blog post today because I so LOVE these adorable ladybugs from the German glass artist, Melanie Moertel. I’ve featured her here before on the blog, as I’ve purchased a couple of necklaces and she has sent me some beads. Imagine my delight in seeing these sweet ladybugs arrive in the mail this week! All of these glass beads are from Melanie Moertel. 😍
As someone mentioned on Instagram, they are so crisply made.
What I especially love about them is how their eyes seem to be very expressive and so the ladybugs are like little individual characters. They have a large core and will fit on Pandora bracelets. Below, the middle bangle uses some GirleGo stoppers that I recently purchased.

This reminds me of a time while teaching grade one music about a month ago. I was wearing one of her necklaces and the kids all wanted to touch it. I then showed them a video on glassmaking and it was a fun little time. Hi Martha, Ladybugs are the ONLY insect that I can say that I actually like. These are adorable! And the beads with the different colors through them….I think they might be called “Underwater Armadillos” are just beautiful.

Hi Suzanne! Yes, I’m not an insect lover either, but ladybugs are so cute. And like you I also love the other beads too. There is something about the way the light moves through them that makes them so pretty.

These ladybirds are adorable (we call them ladybirds in the uk), I have never thought about buying from artisans outside of the PANDORA brand before. Something to think about.
I suppose I always thought of nonofficial PANDORA beads as cheap ripoffs but these are stunning and truly unique!

Glass beads have been made for thousands of years by artisans from all over the world, the first lampwound beads using a mandrel were made more than 5,000 years ago, so Pandora did not invent this type of bead. They have perfected it, and create highly collectible beads, as have Trollbeads and Truebeadz and countless numbers of companies and artisans. It is not at all fair to refer to any of these as “cheap knockoffs”. I agree that Melanie’s beads are beautiful works of art.

I also love Melanie Moertel’s wonderful glass beads! I would love to start collecting them, especially these perfect ladybird beads with their entrancing eyes.
I have always enjoyed insect inspired jewellery, as my parents taught us to see the wonder in the endless variety of them. My Mum painted dragonflies, beetles and wasps, and I make art dolls, as she did, which are inspired by butterflies.
This wonderful collection has coerced me to start saving for a few of her delightful and superior works of art. Thank-you Martha, for another beautiful post and for contributing to my bead wish list, as ever.

Sarah, I so agree about the eyes on these sweet beads. They seem to be such little characters. Do check out her necklaces as well, as I know you have such an appreciation for glass art. The list never ends!

Well I love these so much I ordered a blue one but I maybe should have waited to see in person because that lighter blue aqua? colour is doing me in now 🙄 I also ordered one her her ladybug necklace beads 🤷🏻♀️it snuck into my cart somehow

These ladybugs are absolutely lovely, Martha! Like Trisha, I am particularly fond of the blue! But, after seeing your video, I think that the middle bead which appears to be a very clear, pale shade is really amazing too!💙🐞✨😍

They are so beautiful and perfect for Spring! I don’t have anything by Melanie Moertel yet but I’ve been admiring her work ever since you first introduced her work on your blog (i.e. a pendant and those gorgeous underwater armadillo glass beads by her).
